The massive middle panel is the largest in a series that lines the halls surrounding it.\u00a0There are small rooms holding other art around it but they are mere satellites to the sun that is Diego Rivera\u2019s art.\u00a0The inescapable flavor of his art was the truth and the revolutionary flipoff that he gave to corrupt power in his work.\u00a0\u00a0 One painting in a side room by a very good artist showed a family working hard as the father built a wooden cart;\u00a0a tribute to the\u00a0workers and peasants\u00a0who built this great nation taking back land from their overlords.\u00a0\u00a0Coffee people are still fighting and the grace and poise\u00a0with which the people of Cesmach, El Triunfo and their two sister coops are changing their lives in an area that has great coffee is stunning.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\" align=\"center\"><u><b><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">El Triunfo Coop Patios<\/span><\/b><\/u><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 20px; display: block;\" src=\"dev.cafeimports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/El%20Triunfo%20Patio.jpg\" alt=\"El Triunfo Patio.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"416\" \/><\/p>\n<div>El Triunfo Coop serves producers who grow coffee in a buffer Zone around the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve (Zona Amortiguamiento).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Various activities are carried out in this zone to encourage the preservation of the land in the preserve in balance with a livelihood for the people.\u00a0A permit is needed to enter the preserve, which is 3-4 hours further than the farm we visited.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>El Triunfo and Cesmach work closely to supply a number of buyers.\u00a0Caf\u00e9 Imports supports this reserve with an additional 20 cent premium which goes to funding the preservation of the Zona Nucleo of the preserve.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>What most astounded me on this trip was the quality of the coffee that they are capable of producing.\u00a0This is a group worth placing your bets on.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 20px; width: 350px; display: block; height: 499px;\" src=\"dev.cafeimports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Flood%20Damaged%20Village.jpg\" alt=\"Flood Damaged Village.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"527\" \/><\/div>\n<div>The Village above was severely damaged by floods during the heavy rains from Hurricane Mateo in October 2010. You will ride 2-3 hours by truck and 4 hours by horse in the rainy season to get to the farm.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The area has a distinct dry season which allows for good drying conditions for the coffee.<\/div>\n<div>Short rains occur during the dry season which trigger a flowering. (below) indicating a very compact ripening which may be ready for harvest in November, 2010.<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 20px; display: block;\" src=\"dev.cafeimports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Flowering%20Branch.jpg\" alt=\"Flowering Branch.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"247\" \/><\/p>\n<div><b>Humberto Roblero <\/b>has a farm of about 20 hectares (large for this area).\u00a0It is full shade and has a section where there is old growth forest shading a spring which feeds his little pulpery.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>His coffee is @ N 15\u00b044.424\u2019\u00a0W 092\u00b0.43.313\u2019 at 1400-1700 meters.\u00a0His varietals are Bourbon, typical and a little Mundo Novo.\u00a0Bourbon and Typica are the predominant cultivars in this area.\u00a0He produces about 140-150 qq\/annum ave.\u00a0He had 126 in 09\/10 which was a bad harvest and expects 180 this year which will be a very good one.\u00a0He was just finishing the harvest when I visited so the ripeness is not uniform below.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 20px; display: block;\" src=\"dev.cafeimports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Humberto%20Roblero.jpg\" alt=\"Humberto Roblero.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"527\" \/><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 20px; display: block;\" src=\"dev.cafeimports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cherries%20Don%20Humberto.jpg\" alt=\"Cherries Don Humberto.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"343\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The climate here\u00a0is ideal for patio drying.\u00a0He has\u00a0a good pulper and uses a short canal to\u00a0separate by density after fermentation .\u00a0It is a compact system and could use some additional controls.\u00a0Most important first steps will be improving ripeness in picking and cleanliness in Mill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 20px; display: block;\" src=\"dev.cafeimports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cesmach%20Receiving.jpg\" alt=\"Cesmach Receiving.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"419\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><u><b><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Cesmach Receiving<\/span><\/b><\/u><\/div>\n<p>Coffee is brought in 10-25 bag increments by farmers.\u00a0They bring the coffee in clean woven plastic bags and transfer them to clean sisal.\u00a0The bags are weighed and each bag is tried by Jeremiah who is also the cupper.\u00a0Each bag in every lot is tagged with a unique number and then stored in a tonga which is a larger lot intended for export.<\/p>\n<div>This is a sound segregation system.\u00a0Representative lots are well built and they are working on improving their cupping and calibration with clients.<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0px auto 20px; display: block;\" src=\"dev.cafeimports.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cesmach%20Tags.jpg\" alt=\"Cesmach Tags.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"232\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lot segregation and tagging is just right.\u00a0Coffee will be stored in warehouse for a month or more of additional reposo.\u00a0(Resting the coffee in parchment also known as curing in Africa)<\/p>\n<div>After the coffee is received it is physically inspected and the defects are taken out and weighed as well as moisture being tested.\u00a0To this point the controls are solid.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><b><u><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\">Lab<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">We cupped 18 coffees of which a couple\u00a0coule be\u00a0approaching 90 with a little more rest, and also a\u00a0number were solid 87s despite being fresh.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">These coffees had minimal rest in parchment and I was blown away by the potential here.\u00a0This is an incredibly well run coop with excellent management and stellar relations with the growers.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They seem genuinely unconcerned about the growers delivering and the growers are relaxed; they\u00a0know the expectations when they bring coffee.\u00a0My favorite part was watching the growers deliver their coffee and watching Jeremiah try each bag and pull samples for testing as the growers watched.\u00a0\u00a0 This is the people\u2019s coffee and Co-op.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center;
