That\u2019s how we came to love coffees from Inz\u00e1, a valley town in the department of Cauca, practically pressed up against the Huila border.<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.7&#8243; text_orientation=&#8221;justified&#8221; text_font=&#8221;Raleway||||||||&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;15px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"\">While coffees from Cauca have their own distinct profile\u2014we like to think they are a balance between tangy acidity and caramel sweetness\u2014Inz\u00e1 as a microregion seems to offer up a deeper flavor, more structure, almost a red-wine characteristic that reminds us of a fine Malbec.<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.7&#8243; src=&#8221;\/\/cdn.cafeimports.com\/images\/Cafe_Imports_Colombia_-1-4.jpg&#8221; \/][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.7&#8243; src=&#8221;\/\/cdn.cafeimports.com\/images\/Cafe_Imports_Colombia_OR-1-2.jpg&#8221; \/][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.7&#8243; text_orientation=&#8221;justified&#8221; text_font=&#8221;Raleway||||||||&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;15px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"\">Rather than lump these coffees and their hardworking producers in with the rest of the Cauca lots, we wanted to honor the specificity of the profile and the region by holding a small cup-quality contest for a local community of specialty growers. In collaboration with our export partner Banexport, Cafe Imports held the second annual Inz\u00e1 Cup Contest in 2018, also known as El Concurso de Caf\u00e9s de Alta Calidad (High-Quality Coffee Contest).<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.7&#8243; text_orientation=&#8221;justified&#8221; text_font=&#8221;Raleway||||||||&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;15px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"\">The 10 top-cupping coffees were pronounced winners, and Cafe Imports purchased them all on behalf of our customers back home. In future years we hope to bring along a contingent of roasters to cup, score, rank, and bid on these lots directly, but for right now you can rest assured that we did the \u201chard\u201d work of sourcing the best and brightest offerings from these very smallholder farmers. Her 3-bag lot scored above 90 points in the contest, with notes of sweet, heavy raspberry, red grape, mango, and grape juice.
